180th Anniversary of St. Michael the Archangel Cathedral Parish

Celebrating the 180-year Anniversary of St. Michael the Archangel Cathedral Parish, a CULTURAL SHOW will be held on AUGUST 23, 2014 (7:00pm-9:00pm) at St. Michael's Gymnasium in Barangay San Miguel.

The cultural show will have two parts : 

I. Pasundayag - cultural dances to be performed by La Salle Academy, MSU-IIT Kalimulan Cultural Dance Troupe and St. Michael's College

II. Ang Pagkahimugso sa Parokya ni San Miguel Dance Musicale - to be performed by BSC, LLM, Eskrima Panaad, CFC and K of A

ADMISSION IS FREE.  

Is It the End of Iligan Sunburst Fried Chicken?

In Iligan City, before Jollibee and McDonalds, and other famous food establishments serving fried chicken came to being, there is Sunburst Fried Chicken.  It was founded in 1971 by the Congmon family. 

Sunburst have been loved by Iliganons and tourists for more than 40 years. Making the place not just a family hangout, but as well as with friends and visitors, creating fun-filled/food-filled memories.

However, about two weeks ago, a news circulated that Sunburst Fried Chicken will be closing down effective July 1, 2014.  This has made many lovers of the fried chicken so sad which prompted the "last dine" visits to Sunburst to make one last memory. 

And yes, the closing down is true.  The property have already been bought.  Miss Baby Congmon, one of the children of the owner, said that it was a difficult decision for them (her siblings). But they have to let go of the place for she is the only one left in Iligan and managing it. And as she said she is not getting any younger, she, together with her siblings decided that she has to relocate to Cebu for good.

Nevertheless, she added that, the Iliganons need not wait for long because a franchise is already on the works. The interested franchisee is just looking for the perfect location.  :D

In the meantime, Sunburst Fried Chicken lovers may still continue to savor the taste of the fried chicken at the following branches :

MOU Signing for the Centennial Eco-Park Rehabilitation and Maintenance

On May 31, 2014, during the Culmination Program of Pista sa Dagat at Dalipuga Centennial Park,  a Memorandum of Understanding was officially signed by the City Government of Iligan (represented by Mayor Celso G. Regencia), HOLCIM Philippines (represented by Engr. Bobby R. Garza), and Mapalad Power Corporation (represented by Engr. Edgard D. Sevilles).

The Memorandum of Understanding details the roles of Iligan City Government, Holcim Philippines and Mapalad Power Corporation in the rehabilitation, maintenance and development of the existing Centennial Park into a Centennial Eco-Park.

A. Register an Account

1. Go to http://accreditationonline.tourism.gov.ph/default.aspx
2. Click Login -> Register an Account
3. Fill out the three (3) preliminary and important details before proceeding to the main registration form.
4. Fill out the registration form.

Important Notes!

• To ensure successful registration, please make sure to fill out the form correctly and carefully review the information you entered.
• Make sure that the email address you entered is VALID/ACTIVE. For ESTABLISHMENTS, ensure that this is a corporate email address or an email address that will be permanently associated to your company. Avoid using personal email address if you are applying as ESTABLISHMENT.
• Your official e-mail address MUST contain the establishment's business name.
• The E-mail Address you entered will be used to receive your initial password as well as all notifications regarding your profile and applications.
• Make sure to fill out all available tabs in the form (i.e. Main Profile and Capitalization for Establishments or Educational Attainment for Frontliners).
• Make sure that all fields marked with red asterisk ('*') are properly filled up.

B. Pay the Required Fee

1. Print the Order of Payment by following these steps: Log in to the System -> Go to My Profile > Application History -> Open the application form -> Go to Payments Tab -> Click “Print Order of Payment”.
2. Pay the required fee at your nearest DOT Regional Office (make sure to keep the Official Receipt).
3. Once payment has been made, encode the payment details by following these steps: Log in to the System -> Go to My Profile > Application History -> Open the application form -> Go to Payments Tab.

C. Accomplish the Application Form

1. Make sure to fill out all available tabs in the form (ex. Main Profile, Capitalization, Employees, Vehicles, Drivers or which ever is available).
2. Make sure that all fields marked with red asterisk ('*') are properly filled up.
3. Make sure to upload the valid/correct Documentary Requirements through the Documentary Requirements Tab of the application form.

D. Submit the Accomplished Application Form

Resubmission of documents, additional payment, etc.), it is highly recommended that you log in to the system from time to time as you will receive notifications regarding your application through the system’s built-in Notifications facility AND through email notification.

Rotary International RiD 3870 29th DISCON

One of the world’s well-known civic organization, the Rotary International, holds its 29th District Convention or more popularly known among the members as DISCON in Iligan City.

April 19 and 20 will be a very busy day as members of the organization coming as far as Belgium arrives in Iligan as early as April 17.  Bus loads from all-over Mindanao are expected to come early April 19.  The event will start off at the Elena Tower Inn with a Fellowship Dinner in the evening.  The event is dubbed as “Kasadya sa Iligan” which is expected to create an unforgettable fanfare among the attendees.  The next day’s event will then be moved to Plaza Alemania for another memorable affair.

ILIGAN CITY FEATURED IN LANDBANK OF THE PHILIPPINES 2011 CALENDAR

Promotional effort of the Iligan City Tourism Office paid off magnificently at the close of the year.  Landbank of the Philippines, one of the giant government banks in the country, recently placed Iligan City in their 2011 Calendar when they featured Tinago Falls in their national calendar.  The stint greatly gave our beloved city a boost in terms of promotions.

In another scene, Iligan City was also featured in the Life Style Section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer in their December 12, 2010 issue.  The feature talked about the success of the Diyandi Festival Sa Iligan 2010 celebrations when  Mr. Constantino Tejero, one of PDI's Life Style writers, visited our city to witness and experience the joyous month-long celebration.

Both promotional features gave our beloved city a much needed exposure in the field of tourism.  Surely, this will add a positive impact in our tourism industry.

Living Asia's Visit to Iligan

Three staff from Living Asia  Channel visited Iligan City on August 21, 2010 to shoot a few of the tourist spots in the city.  They were able to shoot Dodiongan Falls, Mimbalut Falls, and Maria Cristina Falls including the other facilities in NPC Nature's Park.

The City Government of Iligan, through the City Tourism Office, was able to negotiate with Living Asia Channel to come back to Iligan on September 26-30, 2010 to shoot more of the tourist spots and the Diyandi Festival Celebration.
